What is Mythos Creations?

Art by Josh

"What is Mythos Creations?" you may ask. To put it simply, we are a small group of “hard-core cosplay” lovers. We are dedicated to the faithful recreation of our characters by careful research and hard work. We will not shy away from the hard-to-create costumes. We thrive on learning new mediums of our art--from leather working, sewing and prop-making to wig work, sculpting and painting; nothing is too much. We love the creativity involved in designing and making our cosplays by hand. Our motto is “Why buy it when you can make it yourself?” We believe that part of the fun of creating cosplays is learning new techniques.

We are also dedicated con-goers. We love almost everything about cons except “drama,” which always ruins our convention experience. You’ll find us everywhere at a convention from contests and panels to gaming and shopping; we love it all!

Most important to us is the camaraderie we have when we work together. It is so inspiring to work together with like-minded cosplayers in a “think tank” environment. Whether we’re working on our own cosplays or teaming up for a group cosplay, we always have a clear goal in mind: to create amazing costumes by hand.

Want to be a member?

Membership in Mythos Creations is by invitation only. Please don’t think we’re doing this because we’re “elitist”; we aren’t! We do it this way because we really want to make sure all of our members “fit” together well. In a club like this, we will be spending a lot of time together! Between intensive sewing sessions to sharing rooms at cons, the average members will be rubbing elbows quite frequently. Because of this we really, really want to make sure that everyone gets along well. We are also doing this to make sure our members have the same level of commitment to cosplay. The following is a list of membership requirements:

  1. Attend 3 conventions per year.
This is done to assure that any group cosplay efforts get the exposure they deserve and also to maintain a presence at our local conventions.

  2. Attend membership meeting at least every other month.
Our club meets once a month for serious cosplay work. The purpose of these meetings is not for some of our members to teach the others; it’s for serious, hard-core work. We meet to get opinions on our ideas and to simply have some company while working. Our meetings rotate between members’ houses.

  3. Commit to one group cosplay per year.
One of the benefits of our group is the chance to join some spectacular group efforts and to be assured that your fellow members are as committed to creating these cosplays as you are.

  4. Maintain harmonious relationships with the other members.
It is understood that not everyone gets along all the time, but we ask that our members try. Any member who repeatedly causes problems with other members will be asked to leave the group. Most of us have enough drama in our lives, and we don’t want it in our “play time.”

  5. Agree to a trial period.
We ask that new members commit to a “trial period.” This trial period will vary from person to person, based on our ability to interact with you. We would like to get to know you, and we would also like to attend at least one convention with you as well. Therefore, the trial period will vary greatly, based on proximity of conventions and how much time we were able to interact with you at said convention.
